Penbroke Privacy Policy

Penbroke is a reading, reflection, and community application operated by The Curving Point Ltd. References in this Privacy Policy to “Penbroke,” “we,” “us,” or “our” mean The Curving Point Ltd.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect information when you use the Penbroke mobile application, visit Penbroke-related pages on The Curving Point website, or contact us for assistance.

By using Penbroke, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create or use a Penbroke account, we may collect:

• Your email address
• Your encrypted account credentials
• Your display name
• Your profile photograph, when you choose to upload one
• Your account identifier
• Information received through Apple or Google sign-in, according to the permissions you approve
• Your account creation and last-sign-in dates

Penbroke does not receive or store the password for your Apple or Google account.

Reading and app activity

Depending on the features you use and whether account syncing is enabled, Penbroke may process:

• Books and chapters opened
• Reading progress and last reading position
• Reading time and reading streak information
• Saved books and bookmarks
• Highlights, underlines, pins, and notes
• Private journal entries
• Chapter-question responses
• Reader preferences, including font, theme, spacing, margins, reading mode, and brightness preference
• Offline chapter-download status
• Search activity within books

Some reading information may be stored only on your device. Information connected to account syncing may also be stored securely with our service providers so it can be restored across supported devices.

Community information

When you participate in Penbroke’s community features, we may collect:

• Questions, responses, comments, and replies
• Likes and other interactions
• The name or anonymous designation displayed with your contribution
• Reports you submit about content or users
• Users you block
• Moderation decisions and related records

When you choose to post anonymously, other Penbroke users will not see your profile identity with that contribution. Penbroke may still maintain an internal connection between the contribution and your account for security, moderation, abuse prevention, and legal compliance.

Content posted publicly or within a community discussion may be visible to other Penbroke users.

Support and communications

When you contact us, we may collect:

• Your name and email address
• The content of your message
• Information about the issue you are reporting
• Screenshots or files you voluntarily provide
• Records of our correspondence with you

Device and technical information

Penbroke and its service providers may automatically process limited technical information needed to operate and secure the service, including:

• Device and operating-system type
• App version
• Language and regional settings
• Internet Protocol address
• Login and authentication records
• Error, security, and diagnostic information
• Date and time of app activity

Penbroke does not collect your precise location, contacts, microphone recordings, or full photo library. When you select a profile photograph, Penbroke receives only the image you choose to provide.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Create, authenticate, and manage accounts
• Provide access to books, chapters, and community features
• Save and restore reading progress and preferences
• Synchronize supported information across devices
• Store bookmarks, annotations, notes, and journal entries
• Display community contributions
• Process reports and enforce our Community Guidelines
• Detect spam, abuse, fraud, security threats, and prohibited conduct
• Provide customer support
• Maintain and improve Penbroke’s reliability and performance
• Communicate important service, account, safety, or policy information
• Comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of Penbroke, its users, and others

We do not use personal information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

3. How Information Is Shared

We may disclose information in the following circumstances.

Information you make visible

Your display name, profile photograph, community contributions, replies, and interactions may be visible to other users, depending on the feature and privacy option selected.

Anonymous contributions are displayed without your profile identity, although Penbroke may retain the internal account connection described above.

Service providers

We use service providers to operate Penbroke. These providers may process information only as necessary to provide services to us, subject to their contracts and privacy obligations.

Current service providers may include:

• Supabase, for database services, authentication, storage, and related application infrastructure
• Apple, when you use Sign in with Apple or download Penbroke through the App Store
• Google, when you use Google sign-in or download Penbroke through Google Play
• Website hosting and email providers used by The Curving Point Ltd.

Before launch, this section will be updated to identify any crash-reporting or analytics provider enabled in Penbroke.

Legal, safety, and enforcement reasons

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to:

• Comply with applicable law or a valid legal request
• Protect the safety, rights, or property of users, The Curving Point Ltd., or others
• Investigate fraud, harassment, threats, abuse, copyright infringement, or other prohibited conduct
• Enforce our Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, and other policies
• Protect the security and integrity of Penbroke

Business changes

If The Curving Point Ltd. is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, or transfer of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and appropriate safeguards.

With your direction or consent

We may share information when you request, authorize, or consent to the disclosure.

4. Sale of Personal Information and Advertising

The Curving Point Ltd. does not sell personal information.

Penbroke does not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, serve personalised third-party advertisements, or permit advertisers to track users across unrelated apps and websites.

5. Local Storage and Offline Reading

Penbroke may store chapter text, reading settings, progress, bookmarks, annotations, notes, journal entries, and other app information on your device.

Downloaded chapters remain on your device until you remove them, clear the app’s data, delete the application, or use an available removal control.

Deleting Penbroke from your device may remove locally stored information, but it does not automatically delete information associated with your Penbroke account. To delete account information stored by us, use the account-deletion process described below.

6. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Penbroke, fulfil the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce our agreements.

In general:

• Account information is retained while your account remains active.
• Reading information connected to your account is retained until you delete it, delete your account, or it is no longer needed to provide the service.
• Community content is retained until it is deleted by you, removed through moderation, or deleted as part of account deletion.
• Reports, moderation records, security records, and blocked-user information may be retained for a reasonable period when necessary to protect users, investigate abuse, enforce policies, or comply with law.
• Support correspondence may be retained while necessary to respond to your request and maintain appropriate business records.
• Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being securely overwritten or deleted.

Where information must be retained for legal, fraud-prevention, security, or dispute-resolution purposes, we will restrict its use to those purposes.

7. Account and Data Deletion

You may initiate deletion of your Penbroke account from within the application through:

Profile → Account Settings → Delete Account

You may also request deletion through the Delete Your Penbroke Account page on The Curving Point website or by emailing info@thecurvingpoint.com from the email address connected to your account.

We may need to verify your identity before completing an external deletion request.

Account deletion is intended to remove:

• Your Penbroke account
• Your profile information
• Reading information stored with your account
• Saved books and bookmarks connected to your account
• Synced annotations, notes, and journal entries
• Community contributions associated with your account, subject to the exceptions below
• Other personal information that we are not required or permitted to retain

Some limited information may be retained where reasonably necessary to comply with law, prevent fraud or abuse, resolve disputes, protect users, maintain security, or document moderation and enforcement actions.

Deleting individual content is not the same as deleting your entire account.

Apple requires apps that support account creation to let users initiate account deletion within the app, while Google Play requires both an in-app option and an external web resource for account deletion.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access personal information associated with your account
• Correct inaccurate profile information
• Delete community content you created
• Request deletion of your account and associated information
• Request a copy of certain information
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent
• Submit a complaint to an applicable privacy authority

You can update certain account information directly through Penbroke.

You may stop using Penbroke at any time. Uninstalling the app stops future app use but does not by itself delete your Penbroke account.

To submit a privacy request, contact info@thecurvingpoint.com. We may request information needed to verify your identity and protect your account.

9. Community Privacy and Safety

Do not post information in community areas that you do not want other users to see.

Penbroke provides tools that may allow users to:

• Post under a profile name or anonymously
• Edit or delete their own contributions
• Report inappropriate content
• Block other users
• Request moderation assistance

Reports are not ordinarily shown to the person being reported. Information from a report may be reviewed by authorised moderators and retained where necessary for safety and enforcement purposes.

Blocking a user limits applicable interactions within Penbroke but may not remove content that was already publicly posted.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

These safeguards may include authenticated access, encrypted communications, access controls, secure service providers, and database security policies.

No electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should protect their account credentials and notify us if they suspect unauthorised access.

11. International Processing

The Curving Point Ltd. and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.

Privacy laws may differ between countries. Where required, we take reasonable steps to ensure that information receives appropriate protection when processed internationally.

12. Children’s Privacy

Penbroke is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate authorisation.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to Penbroke inappropriately, contact us at info@thecurvingpoint.com. We will review the matter and take appropriate steps, which may include deleting the information and account.

Parents and guardians should supervise minors’ use of community and sharing features.

13. Third-Party Links and Services

Penbroke may contain links to websites or services that are not controlled by The Curving Point Ltd.

Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, security, or content of independent third parties.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Penbroke’s features, service providers, data practices, or legal obligations change.

When we make material changes, we may provide notice through Penbroke, on The Curving Point website, or through another appropriate communication method.

The effective date at the top of the policy indicates when the current version became effective.
